Be a Star at Your Music Audition

Author: petersons, Category: College Search

If you’ve ever performed in a play or musical, then you’re probably familiar with sweating through an audition. Even if you’re not, pursuing a degree in dance or music will probably require you to endure at least one. However, auditions for college admission may be a bit different from singing a cappella in front of the high school choir director — this is serious business! Pointers for Your Dance Audition

Author: petersons, Category: College Search

College dance auditions are…well, a different song and dance from musical or theatrical auditions. They often require you to attend an open class the day before (or even the day of) auditions. There you’ll learn, along with everyone else, a routine that usually consists of a performance piece combining improvisation, ballet, modern, and rhythmic dance. Your individual performance will be evaluated on coordination, technique, rhythm, degree of movement, and body structure, as well as on your ability to learn and your potential for completing the program. Lights! Camera! Action! Theater Auditions

Author: petersons, Category: College Search

In many liberal arts schools, entrance into a theater arts program probably won’t require you to audition. However, if you’re pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Theater, you will very likely be required to audition, and you should probably find that out before you go much further in your college application process! A B.F.A. in Theater is considered a serious pre-professional degree that usually combines coursework in theater art, performance, directing, design, and technical areas.

Some programs are so academically intense that they allow very little room for you to pursue a minor or classes in other subjects. In other words, these aren’t the programs you want to enroll in if you’re just looking to do a little moonlighting from your day job as a chemical engineer. Read the rest of this entry »

What to Look for When Choosing a Pre-Med Program

Author: petersons, Category: College Search

Some might consider a good doctor to be the one who can discuss philosophy and swap cookie recipes while checking your reflexes and taking a blood sample. A jack-of-all-trades, so to speak. Med schools look to admit well-rounded students, so if you want to major in philosophy as an undergrad and still head off to medical school, that’s entirely possible. Generally speaking, med schools have some core requirements that pre-med students must meet, but you can usually major in anything you want. However, it’s important to choose your pre-med school carefully and give some thought to both your major and your minor as potential launch pads into the curriculum you’ll face in med school. by Linda K. Amos, Ed.D., RN, FAAN, Former Associate Vice President for Health Sciences, Professor of Nursing, University of Utah

A standard basic or generic baccalaureate program in nursing is a four-year college or university education that incorporates a variety of liberal arts courses with professional education and training. It is designed for high school graduates with no previous nursing experience.

Currently, there are more than 700 baccalaureate programs in the United States.
